The Nasca Stay in Line
February 26th, 2010
Have you ever made drawings in the dirt? A line maybe? A few squares or some animals perhaps? Well, if you have, I’m sorry to inform you that no matter how awesome you thought your creations were, they were nothing compared to what the Nasca people of Peru did over a thousand years ago. Geoglyphs, as they are called in the archaeology world, were created by the Nasca and are so large and intricate that they can only be seen (fully) from an aircraft of some kind. The reason and purpose for the infamous lines and amazing creations has been debated ever since their discovery in the 1920’s, as theories such as maps, calendars and spaceship runways have been proposed. National Geographic has a feature in this month’s issue as well as on their channel (my favorite by the way) and on their site. As you will see from the pictures, the Nasca were a very creative and rather resourceful people. Check it out and learn more about the lost knowledge of humanity.
Also…The picture above is of a humanoid figure supposedly carved even before the Nasca people. It appears to be waving upward which has given many “believers” a kick ever since it was discovered. What’s your theory on the Nasca Lines of Peru?
