Super-soft leather, flexible soles, low-key color options— Jil Sander footwear is as finely crafted and understated as are its clothes. That’s a very good thing.
For a lot of people clothes are just shirts and pants, hats and coats, so on and so on… little more than a way not to be naked. Most go so far as to try matching colors I presume, but that’s about it. Dressing is an art form – one you expect clothing designers in particular to appreciate. With Patrik Ervell that is surely the case.
I spend a lot of time shopping, flipping through various fashion magazines and browsing different designers’ websites. Too many designers aren’t content to let the clothes speak for themselves; oddly placed zippers, pants that are too voluminous or too skinny, weird color choices, garish, overly bold prints, etc. are all different ways that garments are too often sabotaged. The latest collection from Conference of Birds suffers no such maladies. Subtle, elegant and near perfect CoB provides yet another reason to lust for spring.
Man-shorts, sandals (with socks!), double-breasted shawl collar suits, oh my! It’s the Dries Van Noten spring/summer 09 collection. For every thing I like about this collection there seems to be another piece that puzzles if not out right repulses me. Fashion like life is a mixed bag. My advice — stick to what you can trust and avoid garishly printed pants.
After perusing the spring/summer 09 collection from Duckie Brown I can honestly say I don’t know who their target buyer is. I move in a lot of different circles, hang in some off-beat places, but I simply don’t know or even have a vague awareness of people that dress in this manner. Do you?
Life can be cruel. Winters are too long. Half-full glasses usually contain a good deal of backwash. Yet through the darkness comes the shining light that is A.P.C.‘s spring/summer collection— even better the gear goes to retail starting next week (Jan. 22).
Shades of Greige spring/summer collection doesn’t hit stores until next month and there’s no telling when it will actually be warm enough to wear any of the pieces. Light jacket weather lasts for about two weeks in New York. The city is always too hot or too cold — Life is such a struggle.
