The Gathering by immanuel 540x400 Juha Arvid Helminen brings the darkness...Juha Arvid Helminen is Finnish photographer who currently resides at Helsinki/Lahti, Finland. Besides other work of his, I find his black on black work the most amusing. Looking at these pictures makes me a bit uncomfortable, not really sure why but probably has something to do with the whole black fetish nazi thing, tight-lacing, and uniforms. There is something about World War 2 that has always fascinated me. I think it’s the stories, the clothes, the technology, the passion that interests me about this particular war.  Being raised in America I have seen plenty of pictures and movies about the war being fought on the American side and I am glad that there are still movies being produced that tell the story of the brave. But being of Russian descent, World War 2 pictures from the Russian side hold a certain value to me, especially since my grandfather was a soldier in the Soviet army, and was killed in action.
