Think you need to use a brush to create a beautiful painting?  Think again.  Leonid Afremov has mastered the art of using just oil paint and a palette knife to manifest a visual explosion of color in his landscape and cityscape paintings.  His unique technique adds a depth and richness that seem to morph geometric and organic lines into a vibration that breathes electricity into his paintings.  [ Continue Reading ]

Noma Bar MaleLeaders 283x400 Noma Bars Negative Space

Born, raised, and educated in Israel, Noma Bar has called London home since 2001. His first major commission as an illustrator was for time Out in 2003, and he’s been off and running ever since. This collection of illustrations highlights Bar’s trademark use of negative space to say a lot with very little, usually giving the viewer two symbiotic images for the price of one. Here is a question for you… If you were an Israeli arms firm (Rafael Manor)  trying to sell your missles to your Indian counterparts, how would you approach this? Well… Indians love Bollywood movies, so why not create a Bollywood commercial to market your missles? This is exactly what the Israeli arms firm Rafael did for the recently held Aero India 2009 in Bangalore. Watch the video after the continuation… [ Continue Reading ]

11 281x400 Soviet Israeli Posters

Kind of funny to look at these right now, considering that Israel is  capitalist country, however that was almost not a reality during it’s early years as a country. Imagine how different things would be if it was a reality, Israel a communist country… Aside the dirty politics talks, I always find it funny how no matter what country origin the socialist propaganda is from, they all look the same. Red is important, it represents blood, at least thats what I have been taught when raised in a communist country for the first 10 years of my life, symbols of strength and hard working community is crucial into fooling the evil west. Amazing thing is that socialist propaganda still pretty much looks the same, as if the same artist is painting these posters, maybe he is. I can just see this 100 year old man sitting in some jail in Siberia with shackles on his feet and paint all over his hands. I say it’s time to hire an ad agency. You can find a lot of good ones here on

While recent headlines are dominated by news of conflict and war in the Middle East,  Idan Raichel Project an Israeli musical collaborative has achieved success by looking beyond intercultural differences and celebrating the value of diversity. With its blend of traditional Ethiopian folk music, Arabic poetry, Yemenite chants, Biblical psalms and Caribbean rhythms. I actually seen them perform here in New York Central Park Summer stage, it was a great show and brought a lot of people of different races together. It’s amazing how powerful music can be.  Check out the live version of the song after the break…

It’s a real shame when people’s rights are hijacked by a military government and in result the innocent die, this was my first thought when Hamas took power in Gaza.  To even have a slight understanding of this conflict, it is very important to know the history of Israel and the Palestinian people, otherwise you should stay away from all the media reports because they are all biased.  There have been mistakes made by both sides, and in majority, both sides try to avoid conflict as much as possible simply because they are each other’s neighbors and are sick and tired of blood being shed over hate.  But as always, there are a few bad seeds who are able to change, influence and intimidate the innocent.  Here are some amazing close images of the conflict.
