Finnish digital painter/ illustrator Tuomas Korpi has an amaaaaaaaazing eye for detail that you can totally see in his artwork. He doesn’t stick to one genre either. Digital artwork? Check. Matte paintings? Check… he is just that good.

His art makes me think of fantasy worlds and sometimes video games (my boyfriend would be proud), but it is the small and intricate details in every single one of his pieces, whether finished or unfinished, that leaves me in awe of Tuomas. He has already done advertising work in Europe (which is very cool, check his website) and one can only hope that he gets some gigs in the US. We could use a little spicin’ up.

I’m now wishing we were in a time where a robot walks among us, making phone calls or leisurely pedaling his bicycle.   I would not hesitate to introduce myself to him in the hopes that we would become fast friends.  My ideal name for this robot would be Oscar.  Don’t ask me why.

Finnish photographer Markku Lahdesmaki has created such a world in his series “Robot” – such a simple and yet effective title.  Oscar (my personal pet name for him) is depicted as “one of the guys.”  No menacing snarls, no implanting micro-chips in the  human species, and no plots to take over the world.  A simple drunk, waiting for laundry, robot-man.  Now that’s my type of tin!

No, its not Eva Mendes. Or is it? Let’s pretend it is, she’s surreal and so is this guy’s work. The piece is called  It Wasn’t Me and it was created by Finnish surreal photomanipulator Olli Pekka
Jauhiainen, also known as Ouwenz. I dont know how Ouwenz is related to, or short for Olli Pekka Jauhiainen, but it sounds way more like his work; vibrant and exclamatory, both of which probably have something to do with his being featured in Digital Arts Magazine’s May 2009 edition, and countless online art exhibitions. Sami Havia’s album covers - painted on cassette tapes – are pretty cool: another fine example of material reuse (the first “R”, don’t forget) and rejuvenation of cultural artefacts like the cassette.  No offense intended to The Dude by that ‘casettes being cultural artefacts’ remark; that’s just, like, my opinion, man.

On his website, the Finnish painter and printmaker expresses both pleasure and surprise that the 2006 project is now garnering so much attention online.  Indicating to this Dude with a laptop and blogging gig that he’d also welcome interest in his more current work.
