batbus05 Batman Returns with Batbus Ad Campaign

When was the last time a superhero flew past your bus window? It’s a comic geek’s dream come true – and now, an ad campaign. ZDF German Television is using tour buses in Hamburg, Germany to advertise – that’s right – Batman. A figurine of the infamous superhero is attached to the outside of the bus, and as speed increases, the airstream lifts Batman to the level of the passenger window, as though he were flying in the distance. I don’t do mornings and I’m not a fan of people I don’t know, especially when they come in crowds and are fanboys; nonetheless, I braved all those things along with an epic hangover to see The Dark Knight this past Friday. I was more than well rewarded.

The opening bank heist sequence tells you everything you need to know about the Joker and the tone of the film. This isn’t a superhero movie, it’s a crime-drama with men in costumes and makeup. Heath Ledger is beyond tremendous as the movie’s principal villain. He takes his role as The Clown Prince of Crime, along with the entire film, to a place you could never dream of it going.I feel embarrassed for anyone else who has ever attempted the role. No one can play the Joker again as long as people who have seen this portrayal roam the Earth.

Beyond that the movie has all the action and special effects requisite of a summer blockbuster. Director / screenwriter Christopher Nolan and company have given us the movie of not just the summer, but the decade.
