I don’t want to sound gloomy, but it is a pity that our beautiful planet is suffering because of our greedy ways. Helmut Ditsch is not an environmentalist; he is simply a painter, but he is able to capture part of the glory nature has to offer in his works of arts.

This Argentine-born painter was introduced at an early age to two of the most beautiful landscapes of his homeland (The Pampa grassland, and The Andes mountain range) and fell in love. That love for the massive in nature was something that marked him deeply, and it would accompany him throughout his long career. He took being one with nature to the next level by subjecting himself into several expeditions under extreme conditions. From mountaineering in the Andes, or the Austrian Alps, to crossing the Patagonian inland glacier, his sense of adventure and wonder is definitely reflected in his works.

Helmut Ditsch is an already more than established painter, with some of his works being commissioned by big names, and hanging on the walls of the rich. His paintings depict beautifully the grandeur of our dying planet, perhaps his depiction of “Perito Moreno” the glaciers from the Argentinean Patagonia region could become some sort of a relic a few hundred years from now. He now resides in Ireland, where he has been living since the year 2000.

I am not here to promote conservation, or force people the idea of recycling, but I would like for you to look at these beautiful paintings and think about what kind of impact you are having individually on our Planet at this moment…

Andreas Smetana has that WOW factor.  Taking the less ordinary, adding that pop, and in turn creating photographs that make you want to look away but continue staring at the same time.  It’s almost like watching a puppy on the titter of being dropped into a vat of pudding.  You know you’re staring but, should you be?The answer, in case you were really wondering, is yes.  Yes you should.  Smetana is one of the most sought out photographers and  his work is one that you shouldn’t turn your head from.  Clients include Pepsi, X-box, Target, and Jim Beam.  All names that should ring a little bell.  Ding dong.

Andreas formed his own studio at the age of  23, and since then he has been steamrolling the industry with his unexpected  thought processes.  Not too many people can make an ad for Eukanuba dog food look like a still life portrait one would hang over a fireplace.   Did I neglect to mention that Mr. Smetana is also on his way to becoming a full-time sailboat captain?  That is, once and if, his camera decides to take a breather.

If you’re anyone who’s anyone you should know who this is a picture of before continuing on.  I’ll give you a wee hint,  “My precious.”

Oh little Gollum from Lord of the Rings.  Heaven forbid that the sandman actually resembled a shrivelled-up hobbit gone bad.  I don’t think I would be too keen on the idea of him putting sand in my eyes in order for me to fall asleep.  This post however isn’t about that kind of sandman.  Sandman Jamie Wardley has bigger talents that won’t put you to sleep.

An artist that’s great with his hands and a shovel, Wardley creates amazing sand sculptures.  Many of his sculptures are made with water, building sand (sturdier than sand you find on your beach down the street) and plenty of good vibrations to compact everything together.  From there the sculpting ensues and well the result becomes a masterpiece.

Ok, so, I’m not exactly sure who Gabi Trinkaus is. That’s why if you try to click on her name, nothing happens. All I know is that she is a young Austrian artist who calls the above piece a “reconstruction” (there go my Dr. Evil fingers again). I call it a collage, and I did tons of them in the fifth grade.

Every time we had to make a collage (it was always for French class, don’t ask me why), kids would have to find tons of magazines and coloured things to tear into little bits. My mom owns a travel agency, so all I had to do was ask her to bring a bunch of travel brochures home. MUHAHAHAHAHAH!! That’s why my collages all ended up comprised of bits of Carribbean blue- and palm tree green-coloured paper.

That’s all I have to say about that. If you’re intrigued by the art, all the better, go check her out. I mean, her work is by no means badly done. I’m just not quite sure how different this is, you know? All the sites that feature her work (but no biography, of course) are like, “WOW, RECONSTRUCTION!!” People get all excited when someone invents a new name for the same shit we see every day. Like, what’s so cool about this? Because she “combines it with graphic design”? What does that even mean? She scans pages of magazines and then digitally rips them and combines them? GOD I need to rename something just to make it sound cool. Next time I have to clean my room, I’ll tell my sister that she’s been chosen for a funky new project…Re-evaluating the positon of the clothes all over my bed. It’s not cleaning, it’s a re-evaluation. It involves many more brain cells and guarantees a greater sense of accomplishment in the end. I think it’ll work.

Pfft…reconstruction. WHATEVER!

While at first I was repulsed, indignant, and generally had my knickers in a twist (which sounds more and more like a cocktail than a turn of phrase), I feel much better now, and, besides the two or three decompressive cocktails, I’ll tell you why. 

It’s because I don’t really need to try and convince anyone how utterly absurd, insolent, and not to mention downright tacky Austrian Bela Borsodi’s archaically sexist advertising is; no, I relax knowing that anyone probably already knows, and we can all agree upon it, and have a good laugh over a cocktail.  For instance, if one were to check out the NY-based Borsodi’s interview with PingMag, he does expound upon the widespread criticism his work has received, namely from feminist groups, among others.  And, to his credit, he acknowledges how his work has contributed explosively to the discussion of chauvinism in advertising and fashion.  This concession, from a self-proclaimed artist dwelling outside the realm of moral judgment, is perhaps valid.  The fact that he and his clients (Vogue, Bloomingdale’s, Nike…) continue to profit from “playing with lots of objects all the time and trying things out, as long as it’s fun and worthwhile,” a.k.a slapping tits and ass all over his product ads, is not quite so respectable.

Elaborately, as a self-proclaimed artist, Bela, it’s insulting to your audience’s intelligence to use anime porn to sell accessories, regardless of the framework that says you can tastelessly objectify women in the name of “toying with our perceptions.”  Furthermore, it makes the culture that endorses this trash look absurd, insolent, and downright tacky (If any of those people are reading this, however, you can go ahead and flip to the next ad – your cocktail’s on its way, and it’s gonna make all the difference in the world).
