Lily Mae Martin is an artist who gives us insanely detailed ink drawings as well as coolly sensual paintings, often depicting the people in her life. There is a lot of energy in these pieces, a lot of elastic movement that brings out the caricature in her portraits. But caricature is a) a legitimate style of drawing and b) only part of what is going on here. Look closer and you’ll see. [ Continue Reading ]

IMG 6253 533x400 Sam Jinkss Realistic Sculptures NSFW

Sam Jinks is an Australian artist who specializes in sculptures and it seems like he lives up to his name. These sculptures are absolutely amazing, the realistic look Sam Jinks applies to them leaves me speechless. As freaky as they all look, I am glad they are only sculptures, check out the rest of them after the jump… [ Continue Reading ]

The Golden Filter are an electronic duo based in New York. Lead singer Penelope grew up in Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia, while disco and analogue synth programmer Stephen is from Ohio, USA. Solid Gold is their first single and I am really digging it, it’s chill but also has some aggressive electronic sounds to it as well. Penelope’s voice is soothing and goes great with the music. Check out the Solid Gold video after the continuation, it was filmed in Australia, near Melbourne.

Dylan Longbottom, one of the world’s top 4 surfers listed by Billabong International-Southeast Asia seems to have no fear. Why you ask? Because this man surfed a twelve foot wave! luke byrne 04 The centre of attention

What to say about the vast space created by Luke Byrne’s photography?  Ever more confounding is how he’s done it through relatively enclosed, concentrated frames.  He draws focus away from the ocean and into the girl; a message in red ribbon pulses on the floor of a crowded room; from the darkness he forces concessions for the upstart patch of spotlight.

And through this effect, one experiences a visual inhalation.  [ Continue Reading ]

“Signs”, a new short film by Australian director Patrick Hughes, stands as proof that evocative and heart-felt stories can be told in as little as twelve minutes. The film, which will be shown in the upcoming Schweppes Short Film Festival is beautifully told with music and action in the place of any dialogue. Appropriate considering the main theme of the film is the means we use for communication. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
