The jangly, slightly menacing tempo of the song is perfectly synchronized with the astonishing and violent sequence of events in the video by fellow Australian Rhett Dashwood. As the crescendo builds, so does the anticipation for what turns out to be a rather explosive ending. The sharp juxtaposition between the unsettling violence and the mesmerizing slow motion cinematography which captures it, is simply fascinating. This is achieved through the combined expertise of  Dashwood, who works as a creative director in various media and Ari Wegner, the cinematographer. The video itself actually manages to come across more as an engaging short film with the perfect score, rather than a typical music video.

Viewers may be left feeling like shell-shocked eyewitnesses watching a car crash take place-you are too stunned to do anything but you simply cannot look away. And of course in the aftermath are all the inevitable questions concerning what happened. The video leaves it up to you to draw your own conclusions.

In the world of Caitlin Worthington, there are no happy endings, only the intensity that is Real Life.  She’s a 19 year old Aussie who became a self taught photographer at the age of 13.  Her photographic mission, to capture her subjects’ uniqueness, has turned itself into a display of self-possessed, haunting images, with eyes that seem to bore right through you.

What would normally constitute light carefree children frolicking in nature, displays no children, but experienced thieves watching you and laying in wait.  The beauty of this intensity is what makes her images so interesting and reaches beyond a typical “Portrait” photo.  The obvious contradiction of her images make you pray for a sunny day, yet hunt for the next gloom.

Andreas Smetana has that WOW factor.  Taking the less ordinary, adding that pop, and in turn creating photographs that make you want to look away but continue staring at the same time.  It’s almost like watching a puppy on the titter of being dropped into a vat of pudding.  You know you’re staring but, should you be?The answer, in case you were really wondering, is yes.  Yes you should.  Smetana is one of the most sought out photographers and  his work is one that you shouldn’t turn your head from.  Clients include Pepsi, X-box, Target, and Jim Beam.  All names that should ring a little bell.  Ding dong.

Andreas formed his own studio at the age of  23, and since then he has been steamrolling the industry with his unexpected  thought processes.  Not too many people can make an ad for Eukanuba dog food look like a still life portrait one would hang over a fireplace.   Did I neglect to mention that Mr. Smetana is also on his way to becoming a full-time sailboat captain?  That is, once and if, his camera decides to take a breather.

Usually, the most challenging circumstances in our lives bring us the most rewarding outcomes.  This is certainly the case for Australian photographer Stuart Gibson. After a nasty automobile accident left him bound to plaster casts, he picked up a camera, and his life has never been the same.  He is known around the globe for his print and pixel work, most people look at his work and are in absolute awe, I tend to drool in that state so I try to avoid it as much as possible.  But  his sense of timing and composition during heavy moments earn him my bib slathered in saliva.  Play around in his gallery.

Thom Kerr lives in a world of bee-you-ti-full people (I really felt the need to emphasize beautiful).  His photographs are even that much more scrumptious.

I had a hard time choosing which photos to share with all you happy blog readers.  Kerr’s portfolio is most indefinitely something worth checking out and all it takes is the click of your mouse.

A big hit in the Australian and New Zealand scene, this artist has worked for such clients as Lost Apparel and Oyster.  Kerr is the big man on the photography campus now, however his initial start up point was with his fine arts film degree.  So let’s make a list of everything that Thom Kerr has accomplished: photographer-check, art director and producer- check check, writer-check, and designer- check.  He certainly uses all of his talents.

Troyt Coburn is a great photographer. This may not be evident in all of the thumbnails below, as in my opinion they aren’t the greatest pictures ever, but the samples on his site tell a completely different story. Why then, you may wonder, did I post not-so-great pictures when there is a plethora of others a thousand times more pleasing to the eye? Because, dear friends, I have no idea how to save the pictures from his website and so I was limited in my quest to shove Troyt Coburn’s greatness in your face.

The Lee ads are a bit base, not so appealing to me; but I really like his editorial work and his work on various other advertisements, like the one pictured above. There’s virtually no info on the photographer out there, and the only things that I’m pretty sure of are that he is Australian and male. As far as his first name goes, it certainly is an interesting one, but I tried to find the origins of his name and came up blank. Maybe his parents are into Greek mythology and wanted to put a spin on Troy? No idea…but the name Troyt doesn’t exist in any of the baby names databases I abused.

That’s about all I have to say on that subject. Troyt, your photography is awesome but your name is even awesomer.

Lily Mae Martin is an artist who gives us insanely detailed ink drawings as well as coolly sensual paintings, often depicting the people in her life. There is a lot of energy in these pieces, a lot of elastic movement that brings out the caricature in her portraits. But caricature is a) a legitimate style of drawing and b) only part of what is going on here. Look closer and you’ll see.
