Sunset Strip Music Festival 2010
This photo just about sums up the over all festival, it was awesome! One of the perks of being a blog writer is that you can usually get into friggin’ kick-booty events like the SSMF, as press:)
The Sunset Strip Music Festival
is in its 3rd year now and is one of the best rock and roll festivals on the West Coast, headlining this year were the likes of Smashing Pumpkins and Slash. A section of Sunset Blvd is blocked off and there are two main stages for bands and then all the clubs along the strip host performers as well. From 12pm to 2am, there is music all day and night long! I was assigned to cover three bands for the day, my first being Juke Kartel
They were performing at The Roxy. Such an awesome set up. Great size stage, and perfect layout with chair and booths and stools. They were very fun to watch, the main photo above is a snap from their performance. They reminded me of Collective Soul but the with balls of Guns and Roses, really great sound. Check out their site for tour dates.
Next up was Oh No Not Stereo!
. They performed at the Cat Club. A much smaller venue, but it makes up for it allowing you to be very intimate with the band, so intimate, that the lead vocalist did a guitar rif in the middle of the audience! These guys rocked that little club, with syncopated head bangs and kick-jumps. Extremely high-energy performers, with vocals likened to that of Korn and instrumentals similar to Nirvana.
My final band to watch was the almighty Smashing Pumpkins
! They were out of this world cool! Billy Corgan’s voice is so unique you have to hear it in person. I was able to snap a photo of them earlier in the day during their sound check, it’s the last photo in the gallery.
The festival is killer. The energy is very brotherly love, all the bands seemed to support and encourage each other. So many of them were all so young too, it was such a treat to see so much talent, they are all worthy of seeing if you get the chance, look for the festival this time next year!!
