Sunny Choi has a gallery in the heart of up-and-coming hipsterian culture, located in Toronto (Canada, that is) over at Queen and Ossington. Walking by her gallery late and tipsy one good ol’ Monday night, I was struck then swooned by the texture and style of her brush strokes. Yeah, sure. She does recreations of some movie stars, and her paintings are all of pretty girls, but the darned brush strokes, folks!
It’s how she got me. That, and her rather dreamy use of pastel colors and intriguing background paint collages. Her website reads that her gallery is dedicated to representing ideas and images of beauty, accurate and fitting, and here, here! she does it without becoming all that cliche!
Her current exhibition is ‘Brush With Fame’ (rather peachingly appropriate title, if you ask me) which was released just this July.
IF you live in Toronto and haven’t been to see the hipsters smoking Belmonts on bicycles, I recommend a field trip to the area, and while you’re there, have a dabble in Sunny’s gallery. Perhaps she will swoon you with her brush strokes, too!
