As most of you have learned today, Osama bin Laden is dead. Being a New Yorker this hits fairly close to home and the news are very comforting. As people around the world celebrated by going out on to the streets, artist Sudarshan Pattnaik expressed his emotions through something he has been doing since the age of seven, sand art. Sudarshan is considered to be the inventor of sand art in India, up until now he has made hundreds of sand statues, many displaying messages of peace, love and unity. He has won many national and international awards for his creative designs and has recorded his name in the world records for sculpting the tallest Santa Claus built out of sand. Sudarshan won the People’s Choice Prize at the 1st Moscow International Sand Sculpture Championship held in Russia. Eventually he established “The Golden Sand Art Institute” which is first of it’s nature in India. Just like any other artist he is inspired by current events and the picture above is of Osama bin Laden, signifying the end of his evil chapter, book and life.
