Ginou Choueiri doesn’t take potatoes lightly. She has chosen this particular root vegetable as her canvas because like the human face, she claims, no spud is perfect, and no two taters are alike.
I happen to be a large fan of potatoes. And I mean large in both senses of the word..carbohydrates be damned; but I never thought I would find someone more passionate about this starchy food than me. Ginou, which means ‘knee’ in French, in case you were wondering (let us assume, probably correctly, that this name means something else in Arabic) has quite the imagination. Her blog features little snippets of her art in the form of sketches, like scattered thoughts darting from one scrapbook page to the next. I think that I’m way more enthusiastic about the potato portraits than any human being should be, but they make me laugh. She has created an army of Mr. Potato Heads. But fear not, friends, because I will save you from this dangerous mass intent on taking over the world. All I need is some butter and sour cream. Sofia to the rescue! Now where did I leave my cape and unitard?
