Sebastian Errazuriz: If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it must be a lamp.
Chilean artist and designer Sebastian Errazuriz is all about recontextualizing everyday things. Whether it’s zippers, teddy bears, motorcycle helmets, football stadiums, or taxidermied ducks; it doesn’t matter. They are all raw materials that have uses beyond those originally intended. Humor runs through most of Sebastian’s pieces, but many of them are utterly practical as well—like the bookcase that folds up flat against the wall. We could use more designers this inventive; I say we give him a shot at the Health Care Bill and see what happens.
