The tC coupe has been the flotation device for Scion, Toyota’s entry level auto maker. I’ve had the misfortune of riding in an Scion xB, and it felt just as it looks, like riding in a cardboard box. However, the tC has been the stronger of the fleet. But as annual sales slump year after year for the tC, it comes time for Scion to introduce a new design. Most car makers manufacture a design for 3-4 years before the look needs to be freshened up. The tC was introduced in 2004, and Scion is not planning on a new design until 2011, that’s a difficult stretch. Just released is this concept, the Scion Hako Coupe, the coupe replacement mind you. They are still considering it a coupe, with an possible option for an open bed in back. It looks really fun, and better built than the xB, but I’m really more excited about the releases of the Toyota/Subaru RWD sports car, and the Smart car competitor Toyota iQ.
