Saimir Strati Nails, Toothpicks, and Corks It

Albanian artist Saimir Strati’s mosaic of Leonardo DaVinci’s self-portrait, made entirely of nails, holds the Guinness World Record for largest nail mosaic (2006). It measures a tall 6 1/2 x 13 feet and holds 880 lbs of nails, each working as a pixel, rising and falling to depict DaVinci’s features and hair.
Saimir’s precise eyes, patience, and hard work have allowed him to follow his 2006 guiness world record with two others: largest toothpick mosaic in 2007 for Reinless Spirit and for largest cork mosaic in 2008 for Mediterraneana.
In case you were wondering, Saimir specializes in mosaics. I can’t wait for him to outdo himself. Check out his three record setters below, and some of his just as beautiful smaller mosaic portraits here.
