I’m thinking Toy Story flashbacks (cyclo) and my 4-year-old son is clamouring behind me about Konus 5003, “What does he do? Is he a Transformer?” We’re looking at Andrea Petrachi’s (a.k.a Himatic) robotic sculptures, made from old toys and recycled items. Challenging both our overwhelming need to buy things and our penchant for confronting what is natural with the technological, his work is meant to provoke thought (and perhaps action?)
Metallic images that reflect what we are as a society, maybe. Cool robotic mixtures of household gadgets, maybe. Totally eye-catching for a little guy? Yes.
