here we Lie Marco Z Marco Zamora

My first impressions of L.A. artist and graduate of California Institute of the Arts Marco Zamora’s artwork are varied; I jot down mottled movement, texture, pattern, oddities (skeleton faces leave quite the imprint on me), and reoccurring buildings (they’re everywhere, including dappled all over people’s bodies, but the people don’t seem to mind.)

Next, I pick a favourite piece and think over my perception (because, really, what is my take on someone else’s art but a perception, notion, opinion?) of it. I like here we Lie. It has a tranquil atmosphere within it but at the same time, it gives off this disturbing mood (due, in no small part, to the skeleton faces of two of its figures.) I’m drawn to the character second from the left (with those eyes, or the lack of them, boring into me); very prominent right off, the shading and lines of this figure are stark in comparison to the softer figure third from the left.

What is he saying? I like to think it’s a commentary on all the waiting people do in life, all the sitting and stagnant nothingness we endure. They look to me to be sitting on a bench waiting for a subway train to come rolling on in…or maybe they aren’t waiting for a ride but just biding time together until something comes up.

Man! It’s like you understand my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you can do with some images to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is great blog post. A great read. I’ll certainly be back.

This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like ‘Mixview’ that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you’re listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of “neighbors” will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune “Social” is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.
