Makeup madness with your host, Sofia!!!
May 13th, 2009

Sylvia Dell’Orto is a world-renowned makeup artist based in Milan and New York. She is a true artistic mastermind and one of my personal inspirations. She has created many looks for beauty giant Sephora, and many of her videos are available on Sephora.com. Her avant garde style and structuralist pieces create both a timeless elegance and modernity incarnate with every model she works her magic on. Continue reading for less famous artists who definitely deserve some exposure.
Apologies if her name is spelled incorrectly, but I’ve been Googling for awhile and found two variations. Some spell it “Dell’Orto” and others “Del Orto.” Being Italian, I would tend to lean towards the former, but when it comes to family names, anything is possible. The Trendland post which inspired this one is about talented makeup artists, and serves to showcase the work of various artists, with Sylvia among them. I wasn’t too impressed with the other artists in that particular post, so I decided to introduce you to some less-known faves of mine.
Being completely obsessed with makeup and application, I often browse the web for new looks and techniques that I can try. I often turn to Youtube for inspiration, and am hooked on three artists…I just can’t get enough! Lauren is an LA-based freelance artist, and she rocks my socks. Another Lauren, this one from the UK, is living my dream. She is a successful makeup artist who recently launched her own makeup line. I have no idea if it’s any good…I’m stuck to my M.A.C and find it difficult to stray. Amy is from Charleston and she’s awesome, too. Her talent is undeniable and for all you ladies and gents who find makeup a daunting task, she’s a great teacher. These are a few examples of many when it comes to the talent out there. As is the case with most everything else in life, with makeup, experience is priceless. Practice does indeed make perfect, and perseverance is key if you want to become noticed. Dell’Orto is a phenomenon, and the Youtube artists are great examples of talent who truly deserve recognition.
Makeup allows us to transform ourselves, if ony for a few hours. One needn’t lop off six inches of hair, go blonde, or get a heavy-handed Botox injection to appear different. Makeup is a form of expression and inspiration. From barely-there to drag-like fabulousness, a great quality cosmetic is an easy pick-me-up for many ladies– and men– out there. No matter one’s personal opinion on makeup use, one cannot deny the talent of the hands behind special-effects makeup in films, and the artists that are the visual masterminds behind the intricate looks of the Cirque du Soleil. Check these ladies out, and you shall not regret. Maybe their videos will inspire the dormant artist in you, or at the very least, spark an appreciation of such a creative and colourful medium. In any case, I can guarantee at least one of you will run out to buy a new eyeshadow after watching a few ;) Let’s do the wave inspired by makeup solidarity *waves* THAT WAS A SEXAY WAVE!

I wonder… If I put on hot pink lipstick, will my lips look that sexy….?
For sure…but they’d be even sexier if you clenched a strand of pearls between your teeth all day :D THEN they would be not just sexy, but high fashion, madam.
Many thank you again for offering superb content but quickly as as soon as soon again. Absolutely a pro-blogger if I’ve noticed 1.
