Former biochemist turned scientist who can draw, Kelsey Brookes’ figures swirl and dance before the eye in colour and movement (making you really think and examine every detail.) The elephant with the wild eyes breaks free of the Goofball Gobbledygook, into what other dimension and from what dimension, I cannot say. It looks to be a pink lemonade world, judging from the aura of pink emanating from all around the creature. The Universe is in You greets me with soft, happy emotions flowing out from the flowers and unbroken circular shapes and the open hands of the figure.
These figures, shapes and colours are overwhelmingly interesting. I’m pretty convinced that seeing Brookes’ work in a gallery would be nothing short of fascinating. I also think that the advertising campaign managers who’ve used his work (VANS, for example) were on top of their game when they saw something in this former (thankfully) scientist’s work.
