Kahori Maki Paints Rooms
Think Michelangelo’s so great? Imagine if he’d painted the entire Sistine chapel, instead of pussying out and just doing the ceiling.
Japanese artist Kahori Maki is a skilled graphic artist in two-dimensions, but when she switches to three the result is like a mimeographed LSD trip. Imagine being locked in there. You’d be schizophrenic within the half-hour.
Still, it is beautiful. She’s taken a floral theme – something we associate with colour, life, and cheesy wallpaper – and made it dark and Escheresque. Only in Japan.

PS: Yeah, “colour.”
