Jon Langford is best known as a founding member of The Mekons, arguably the first band to mix Country and Punk. And they’re British, to boot—take that, Country purists! Langford also paints, mostly portraits of his musical heroes.
His work is colorful but uses a lot of black, rough—they’re often painted on wood, creating a beautiful texture—but accurate. Many of these pieces lionize the musical geniuses of New Orleans; Langford was inspired after he took part in a 2008 post-Katrina benefit there. They can be found at LeMieux Galleries. If you’re looking for some new art, you could do a lot worse.
