John Dahlsen
May 1st, 2009

Having just breezed through Earth Day, what better time to introduce you to John Dahlsen, the environmental artist. All of his “paintings,” sculptures, and installation art are made from rubbish, ropes, flip flops, plastics and essentally garbage
that he finds along Australian beaches. His series of plastic bag composed ‘paintings’ can easily pass for an oil or acrylic abstract, except they are serving to reduce garbage while decorating your walls. His award winning installation piece Thong Totem cleared the beaches of old flip flops, if just for that day. Giving us something to look at while reminding us every so tactfully that we are destroying the planet. Promoting awareness while further demonstrating that art makes the world a better place, and not just ideally.
