John Currin is an accomplished painter whose figurative works have raised some eyebrows for the way that they mix Renaissance influences with poses that are often taken from internet porn. The Andrea Rosen Gallery in New York is hosting a collection of his drawings, watercolors and sketches—some of which were studies for his more elaborate, detailed paintings.
Currin’s often satirical sexuality may offend some, but you have to admit that at the very least he presents a broad range of ages and body types. That can only be a good thing, right? Works on Paper: A Fifteen Year Survey of Women runs through this Friday, August 21st.
