James Jean is ArtStrong
That’s James Jean. His artistry is more lethal than cancer. That’s why Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong Foundation has tapped him to help raise awereness by creating one of a series of yellow chalk pieces that will be peppered throughout the streets of L.A. Jean’s ethereal creation for the project looks very much like triumph over a monster. (to me anyway, because flowers and monsters go to together, duh) It sits at the Venice Boardwalk.
The idea for the chalk art murals is an extension of the the Livestrong Foundations Open Roads Campaign during the Agmen Tour of California. Nike and Livestrong staff handed out packets of yellow chalk to fans at the start and finish lines and asked them write messages on the pavement. Very touching, see pics below.
Highly awarded and ever evolving, James is a graduate of NYC’s School of Visual Arts. He has illustrated for The New York Times, Rolling Stones and Atlantic Records amongst others, and his creations have adorned Prada’s Epicenter stores and graced one of their collections (Summer/Fall 2008). He currently resides in LA.
