Hodge Podge of Fashion Photography
Welcome, boys and girls. Today we’re back in FashionLand, admiring the fashionably surreal photographs of esteemed artists like Bruno Dayan, James Meakin, Michael Raveney, Jaques Dequeker, and Stephen Meisel, to name a few.
If you’ll check out the blog below, you’ll see that these photographs seem to have been brought together to showcase the many effects that can be achieved through creative use of lighting. I myself am partial to the work of Jaques Dequeker. There’s something intriguing about the contrast between bland, grey backgrounds and the neon signs that have been imposed upon them.
In fact, each of his two photographs is interesting for its own reasons and I think they merit a paragraph’s worth of focus. The first is striking not just because of the neon green sign lettering that Dequeker has incorporated, but also due to the red-tinted streetlight that manages to enhance the effects of both the sign and the original black and white image. The combination of these three elements is masterfully done and really quite subtle. What are likely complex techniques come together to create a simple, yet effective photograph. The second is a picture in a picture, with the neon pink heart framing the face of the subject.
That’s enough from me, though. I’ll let you all take a look at the rest. Enjoy the rest of your trip!
