Hand Tools

Get a grip. Can I give you a hand?
Let’s be honest, you probably thought of these expressions after viewing the Design Martus hand tools and felt pretty clever too for coming up with them. What is truly clever is how this industrial design team managed to take one of the most basic tools, a wrench, and re-design it in an almost literal, tongue-in-cheek manner. This type of sensibility seems to be the trademark of Design Martus, run by Martus and Silvio LLC, presumably the brainchild of Bob Martus and Kate Silvio. According to them their work is focused on ‘creative industrial design, product development, custom furniture and design’. The Metal Work portfolio in particular, demonstrates their knack for turning typical household items such as plant racks, tables, chairs and tabernacles (yes tabernacles, every home has one, it’s found next to the family barbecue) into functional art. Now let’s all give them a hand (sorry I needed to get it out my system).
