If Stonehenge may be considered a monument to a way of life of old, then Carhenge is certainly a monument to what our way of life has become. If you’re out near Alliance, Nebraska any time soon, and you’re cruising down the highway, prepare yourself. Art enthusiasts and car enthusiasts alike are excited about Carhenge. It’s a monumental structure composed of 38 vintage cars, all painted gray, arranged in a circle measuring about 96 feet (29 m) in diameter. The artist, Jim Reinders, had the opportunity to study the original Stonehenge and its design and purpose while living in England, and in 1987 his dream of replicating the structure came true.

Carhenge is a replica of Stonehenge, with cars in place to replicate all of the stones of the original structure. In 2006, a visitors’ center was constructed to service the site.
