Fallen PrincessesVancouver-based photographer Dina Goldstein has worked for everyone from Fashion to Flair, from Canadian Business Magazine to Bell Canada. She claims to have “international flair, capturing remarkable events and unique personalities.” If you’ve ever been a young girl, you may recognize some of the unique personalities that she’s put into perspective in her project, “Fallen Princesses.”Goldstein says that watching her daughter’s interest in princesses bloom has put her own childhood abroad into perspective for her. She says that she “began to imagine Disney’s perfect princesses juxtaposed with real issues that were affecting women around [her], such as illness, addiction, and self-image issues.”

The Fallen Princesses series is an idea that I really like. As young girls, and old girls, many of us idolize people and ideas that are completely unrealistic – and as much as many of us hope for Happily Ever After, not many of us get the joy of experiencing it undiluted. In these imagined scenarios, even our favorite perfect girls experience the backlash that comes after the ride into the sunset.
