Darby’s Torment

In describing his own work, painter Jonathan Darby says “Our humanity is being diluted as we become one common indistinguishable mass that is easily manipulated to the benefit of capitalist intention….”“…I have chosen to use myself in my work as I honestly believe that I am also the subject of this matter and the first steps to dealing with this is to be straight with myself as to my involvement in it.” It is with this statement (via Saatchi Gallery) that the viewer can begin to understand that the artist’s intentions are backed by a highly philosophical mind– Meanwhile modern day society continues to blind us daily with interruption advertising and branding (eat your heart out Seth Godin). Take a look at the faces that Mr. Darby portrays in his work — these people are reflections of all of us… Labeled to the brim.
