dan luvisi digital artist 7 310x400 Dan Luvisi, you fail to please me

Dan Luvisi is a “digital artist” (I totally just did the Dr.Evil finger quotation marks…MUAHAHAHAHAH). I really find the pieces featured on Trendland’s post on the artist to be quite base. Especially the above frame, featuring a man vaguely resembling Lenny Kravitz holding a chimp. The only remotely cool thing about this picture is that the monkey is wearing a red tie and probably contemplating taking a dump on Lenny’s forearm. The art featured in the original post is way too 80s/anime style/original Nintendo console games for my liking. Did that make sense? No? Too bad.

Ok, so I just read his bio and now a lot of the graphic novel-esque concepts and textures make sense. But I’m still not crazy about the majority of them. YEAH I’m talking about you, Lenny. You’re so 2001.

I found the art featured on Luvisi’s site to be far more appealing and thematically stimulating. The effect of the art itself– the video game-looking texture of the prints– aren’t my cup of tea, but that’s just me. I wasn’t able to save the photos I liked best from Luvisi’s website, so I encourage you to browse yourselves; my favourites are the Wonka photo, the clearly Tim Burton-inspired Nightmare Before Christmas/Beetlejuice print, and the cool “Don’t fuck with me, zombies, I’m S.W.A.T.” I hope the Kravitz/Chimpanzee photo feels like a loser compared to those.

Talk about a post just to flaunt your own opinion like it’s the only one out there, and hear yourself talk.

Please explain to me why you bothered to take so much time to bash ONE particular painting Mr. LuVisi did, and then praise his other work? I don’t see how you disliking one of his paintings, and little nuances of style in others warrants a negatively titled article based on his art.

In fact, why even bother posting something to just trash someone’s work? All it does is call attention to his art which you clearly think is subpar and uninteresting anyway. You stated that it’s not your cup of tea, so why critique or review it? “Dan Luvisi, you fail to please me?” In other words, if something isn’t your cup of tea, why bother investing time into it, as it clearly wasn’t made for you to enjoy in the first place.

You don’t see me walking into a chick flick, and then walking out pissed off about how I didn’t like all these little things about it. Of course it wasn’t made to please me, I’m not some 25 year old woman with too much estrogen and a case of heartbreak. Simply put, I’m not the targeted demographic. So get off your high horse and write something useful instead of making yourself look like an elitist know-it-all whose opinion should be writ in stone.

And keep something else in mind before you go and trash someone’s life work, hobby, profession, and livelihood: They’re a person just like you, and I highly doubt you’d enjoy someone jumping all over your writing and whatever else it is you do just because they feel their opinion is worth something. In other words, why try not being just a little more respectful instead of coming off as egotistical and crass?

    Good day.

oh gosh :/ I hope that that reply wasnt intentionally done to look vertical like that.
I’m not sure if you’ll actually read this, sir, but in the event that you do, I just wanted to let you know that I respect your opinion, as you should mine. True, I wasn’t entirely crazy about most of the pieces that I saw when browsing the artist, but I do believe that many artists out there need exposure. While my post concentrated on a particular collection, he has many other out there, which I viewed as well. Overall, as I mentioned, his art is not my cup of tea (as art, you may agree, is certainly a matter of taste), but it may very well catch the eye of some readers out there. I know my views are far from a million, but if a few people read my post and this prompted them to search his work, then I don’t think I did such a bad thing.
A lot of my posts are pretty sarcastic, but that’s just the way that I write. If I thought that Dan Luvisi was an asshole who didn’t deserve my time, I wouldn’t have written on him in the first place. Just because the overall style of his work doesn’t visually stimulate me, it doesn’t mean that I think he is talentless.
This blog is an outlet for me, and I won’t censor my opinions solely because someone does not agree with me. If these artists are getting exposure (however minimal), I think that it’s a great thing, whether I write a few biting remarks or not. I hope you have a good day, whoever ends up reading this, as I may have responded to what one person actually wrote, but what many people have been thinking.
    :) Love from Montreal.

Spot on with this write-up, I really think this web site needs much more attention. I’ll most likely be again to study more, thanks for that information.

Very nice post and straight to the point. I don’t know if this is truly the best place to ask but do you folks have any thoughts on where to employ some professional writers? Thanks in advance :)

Wow, I really have to disagree with everything you’ve said. The idea that a black character w/ a fro, is similar to Lenny Kravitz shows that you already placed no artistic perspective or referencing into your views. Many comparison could be made to any image-built hip-hop archetype, the techno DJs, egocentric Kanye West, Deep Underground style and sneaker gurus, whatever comes to mind.

The fact that you visited the site and got a summary of the media, also shows, you have no concept of even trying to understand cyberpunk related media or the actual work the character portrait is from. Why review an artist only to downplay all his talent on piece you don’t like. For instance here, I’m not sure if I’m making a complaint or just saying I don’t like anything you have to say based on this half ass article.

I dont see what it is about this weblog that turns me off so much, on the contrary you simply dont seem to get me excited. I dont recognize if its the lack of contents or because of the way you wrote it. I think you in fact dont seem to understand that your readers might not agree with you.

I’m impressed, I must say. Very seldom do I come across a blog thats both educational and entertaining, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head. Your post is outstanding; the issue is something that not a lot of people are talking intelligently about. I am really happy that I stumbled across this in my search for something relating to this.

This guy is nothing short of a conceptual genius, equipped with the artistic skill to match.

Your poor opinion of his work only magnifies your ability to overlook raw, creative talent.
