Art Chicago 2009Do you like going to art galleries? Will you be in Chicago this weekend? If you answered “yes” to both questions, you should definitely head to the Merchandise Mart this weekend.

Beginning today, the annual Art Chicago exhibition turns three floors of one of the world’s largest buildings into an art extravaganza. Galleries and artists from around the world transform the 7th, 8th, and 12th floors of the Mart into an artistic immersion experience. And if you leave here wanting more, there’s not much I can do to help.

One of the most intiguing displays  on the 12th floor is by New York artist Jason Hackenwerth. He uses hundreds of  balloons to create temporary, larger-than-life scultures. It’s the artistic equivalent of a sand castle; interesting to look at, but gone in a few days. It’s only fitting that he makes sand sculptures, too.

A few days is all you have, since the show ends on Monday. Hope you get a chance to see it!
