A robot arm. We’ve seen them several times in scifi movies and on television and in electronics shows that have been promising certain advancements in technology for what seems like eons now. But now it seems that once again fantasy and reality have met. [ Continue Reading ]

3 madame figaro 492x400 Stephane ManelStephane Manel can get away with referring to himself by only one name- Manel. Why? Because cool people are allowed to as a thorough examination of the phenomenon clearly proves. Cher, Madonna, Bono, Jay-Z, MacGyver and Rambo are just a few examples of the I’m-cool-enough-for-one-name trend. (The jury’s still out on The Edge-we’re not sure if it counts as one name or two). Have you ever wondered what happens to all those buses that nobody uses or are considered too old and unsafe for school use? Wonder no more. Apparently they all go to Panama! Unused and unwanted buses end up in Panama and are then converted into public transportation vehicles for urban areas. If that were the end of the story, one might say “That’s nice. They help out the less fortunate.”  This is much more than that. This is riding in style. Call it: Pimp My Ride: Panama City Edition. These neglected and worn down vehicles are ” fantastically refashioned” with designs and imagery painted on all available surfaces by  veteran artists and newbies alike. rudolph and clarice Vixen to Rudolph: Fame is Sexy

The image above was taken from the Arthur Rankin and Jules Bass’s 1964 classic film  ”Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”. You may have heard it before.  The doe ( female deer) with the long lashes and pretty bow is actually named Clarice and is not Vixen at all, as the title of this particular blog suggests, but thats really besides the point. While this classic which was inspired by the poem “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” and the coloring book “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”, has a good message and a happy ending, it is the song that is sung, which has no relation in particular to the movie, that I have issue with. As someone with an Alice fixation, Scottish artist Johanna Basford, does signature black and white illustrations which play with all these elements. Her work is devastatingly detailed and what is most surprising is that it is done the traditional way-by hand, mainly using paint, ink and paper. This fact makes the depth and scope of her work even more impressive.
