Puck UOIT 0071 Irish Dance For the Post Pop Generation

Suzanne Cleary & Peter Harding modernize the tradition of Riverdance. Alright, I’m going a little bit mainstream here as I stumbled upon this artist whilst reading Vogue (I was at a hair salon. Beauty magazines happen). But for once in my life, I was actually pleased that whilst flipping among various ads of half-naked women, I found a little mini article on Chiharu Shiota’s installation entitled ‘Room of Memory’. Sunny Choi has a gallery in the heart of up-and-coming hipsterian culture, located in Toronto (Canada, that is) over at Queen and Ossington. Walking by her gallery late and tipsy one good ol’ Monday night, I was struck then swooned by the texture and style of her brush strokes. Yeah, sure. She does recreations of some movie stars, and her paintings are all of pretty girls, but the darned brush strokes, folks! [ Continue Reading ]

Episode 1 features clips from a one-man show that I performed in San Francisco this past July. It also includes pieces of a Q&A interview which was held after one of my performances. Provocative, eye-catching…a little soft pornish but with this groovy vibe. The rendering of the girl with a feather headdress is quite beautiful. Soft and alluring. The gloves in the boxing girl piece are standout, drawing the eye to them rather than right to the girl.

Alright, I’m not one for ‘cutesy art’ but this one is pretty small-smirkable, even for those of you who are convinced anything to do with babies is far to soft, pink and cuddly to really be found in the dark and twisted underworld of the artistic. [ Continue Reading ]

Anything involving Darth Vader is going to impress me, especially if the image involving him is as artistic as that of Steve Santana. The Legacy and Truth piece (with the glaring eyes of the skull boring into me) is another favourite of mine. I especially like the use of colour. Here and there, I like the splotches of paint across images; they’re the finishing touch that makes some of the others seem naked or flatter almost.
