Blue 291x400 Watch It: Trois Couleurs: Bleu

Back in 2000, a review of Rainer Maria’s magnificent album Look, Now Look Again declared, “someone you know probably needs this album right now.” What the critic meant was that chances are you or someone you knew was nursing a broken heart and this album, with it’s minor key scream-a-long choruses and poetically detailed lyrics, would provide some much needed solace and catharsis. Music is very good that way; that’s why every major break-up in my life has inspired a suitably tortured mix tape; I got married, thankfully, before I could make playlists.

Movies are good that way too. And someone you know probably needs to see Krysztof Kieslowski’s Trois Couleurs: Bleu right now. [ Continue Reading ]

European energy giant RWE, contract Happy Camper to create the “Green” Giant short to help mold an image of renewable energy as well as old stand bys. I don’t care about what they were trying to impress up on me… this giant is super cute and an amazing/imaginative creation by Happy Camper in and of itself, message aside.

The Hangover was a hilarious, inventive well-crafted movie. It made me laugh many, many times. Was it chock full of clever social commentary like, say, Blazing Saddles, or bursting with insight on human behavior like Annie Hall? Nope. It was just funny, and it was good at it. For audiences and critics, that was enough.

So why is Rob Zombie’s Halloween II getting such poor reviews? [ Continue Reading ]

After recently attending a sign-along version of 1986′s Labyrinth, I have found a new love and appreciation for a movie that I have loved since I was a child.  Never heard of it? DS Drew Struzan

Can we talk about all the posters that Drew Struzan has designed that I have also owned? I am pretty stoked to report that some Star Wars and Indiana Jones posters adorned my walls over the years, due in part to my infatuation with the young Harrison Ford. To my delight, he has also created some of the artwork for some of my favorite movies over the years… Can we say Back to the Future? Blade Runner? Harry Potter?  The Goonies?! I mean seriously, this dude is amazing.

Let me preface this by saying: I’m Jewish, and in no way take the Holocaust lightly. I am the grandson of two survivors, I have made the trek to Auschwitz, Majdanek and Treblinka, I’ve learend the history and the last thing I ever would want to do is mock the atrocities committed by the Nazis. With that out of the way, let’s get down to business.

Motherfucking. Nazi. Zombies. (From Norway!) [ Continue Reading ]
