How many of you can say that you eat art for breakfast? Well I personally don’t consider star shaped pancakes a work of art, but Tibi Tibi Neuspiel sure could hook you up with some of his pretty delicious artistic toasts. Hungry yet? Well you should be! [ Continue Reading ]

Can art capture the essence of human life? What is the essence of a human? Is it the body or the mind? Could it be both? Is it possible to portray the body, and the mind of a human in one single work of art? Hmmm too many questions I know, but that’s what Antony Gormley attempts to do with his incredible sculptures. It’s not a secret that images have the ability to awaken different parts of our brains, and allow us to experience different things. We are an extremely visual society, and if you have been blessed with the gift of sight (I would assume if you’re reading these words), then how many times have you looked at a picture and found yourself completely being immersed at some random thought? Jim Kazanjian’s works could certainly cause your brain to trip out. [ Continue Reading ]

The music industry is one of the hardest to break into, and perseverance is a major ingredient for success in the magical world of those who make it. Aside from great music, charisma, and lots of talent, you need a certain something to set you aside from the rest, and Toronto’s indie rock band The Cunnignhams certainly got that je ne sais quoi about them that will take them far. face pen 29 270x400 There Is Beauty In The Macabre You know the feeling when you’re driving down the interstate and you spot a horrific massive car accident, and you can’t take your eyes off of it? It’s the feeling of awe and repulsiveness, of sorrow and the curiosity for the grotesque. Artist Ashkan Honarvar is able to recreate that same feeling with his art, and just like that car accident you can’t stop staring. [ Continue Reading ]

Osamu cover 295x400 The Art of Osamu: Japans Walt Disney

The image you see above is certainly a familiar one. It goes without saying that Astro Boy is an icon just as Mickey Mouse is to Disney, and as Mario is to Nintendo. The deceptively cute character is by far the most popular creation of one Osamu Tezuka, referred to by many as the “God of Manga.” Although I’m not really in to apotheosis of any kind, unless of course we’re talking about Michael Jackson :), the epithet certainly isn’t unwarranted considering Mr. Tezuka’s role in creating what has now become an explosive industry. For the second and final (for now) Crush of the Week  blog, I tried to do something for the ladies. I really did. After all it is your holiday that I am honoring by doing this. But… it didn’t turn out as expected. At first I thought to myself “hey, I hear a lot of girls say that Jared Leto dude is crushworthy and multi-talented”, but I just couldn’t bring myself to post that. Sorry :) Besides, the entire holiday is devoted to the ladies right? Dudes need something too, even if it is just a blog post or two…

Alas I did make a compromise though….

The featured artist this week is indie musician Ingrid Michaelson [ Continue Reading ]

In the spirit of the upcoming holiday – the one with all the hearts and candy and stuff, which if you leave your house at all, is impossible to avoid the ads for – I decided that for two weeks I will show ” a little love” to some of the artists out there that are not only talented but inspire crushes from here to San Fransisco. Welcome to “The Crush of the Week” post.
