Alice + Olivia fashion designer and owner Stacey Bendet Eisner kicked off New York fashion week with her Fall 09 fashion meets art presentation. The star studded event with guests such as Paris Hilton and Moby was held in the brand’s flagship store on Bryant Park South. The show as uniquely model-less, opting rather for an art gallery feel, showing the collection in motion photography installments on bare walls. Guests packed the space to get a glass of champagne, gourmet mini cupcakes, and a glimpse at the beautiful artwork. [ Continue Reading ]

akillis jewelry 585x321 Bullets & Ice

Mini Boss from Trend Land has fast become one of my favorite bloggers. In a recent post she likened the diamond encrusted bullets in a collection from the French jewlers Akillis to something out of the world of James Bond. For me the jewels conjured images of femme fatales from classic noirs like The Big Sleep and Farewell, My Lovely. Regardless of the point of reference the collection [ Continue Reading ]

Hot fashions are not found only in NY during fashion week.  London fashion week produced one hell-of-a-line from Greek designer Ioannis Dimitrousis.  His latest for Fall 09 incorporates great materials, stitching knits together and then detailing with some awesome metallic accents. They are dripping with tailored masculinity, hot!  He creates fantastic individual looks with very creative fabric manipulations.  And the sweetest part of the story is that he works with him mom.  Ioannis is definitely one more for the “Favorite Book”.

The Victorian era is one of my favorites.  It burst at the seams with industrial innovations, such at public sewage upgrades and electricity.  While aristocrats over indulged in arts, gambling, and prostitution, middle class  populations boomed and with that brought poverty, the invention of housing “flats” and “slums”, and child labor. Charles Anastase is a [ Continue Reading ]

livingnecklace05 585x380 Living NecklacePaula Hayes is turning nature into art in a rather glamorous way. The New York City based artist, who received her MFA in Sculpture from Parsons School of Design does all sorts of interesting projects from bird feeders to terrariums to gardens. Check out the body of her work HERE. My personal favorite is the “Living Necklace”, captured above. It is truely a unique piece of jewlery that looks like it was sculpted from things you would find at the bottom of the ocean.

gwyneth paltrow by steven klein 01 585x395 Gwyneth Paltrow

Iron Man never looked so fashionable as when Gwyneth Paltrow went on the PR blitz to promote her role in upcoming flick. For the May issue of Vogue magazine, the actress/model/humanitarian (photographed by Steven Klein) posed in some seriously high tech gear and fantastical dresses– possibly giving us an idea of what to expect come summer? Paltrow takes a flawless photo and gets us seriously pumped for Iron Man- though your average non-super power possessing human might have a hard time sporting some of these outfits.

Rick Owens designs apparel that  doesn’t really fit my style, but that I can still appreciate. His leather trainer boots are a perfect example.  They kind of look like something a boxer or [ Continue Reading ]
