0 Way Cooler than a Velvet Elvis

I often find myself drawn to things I can’t fully explain. How (or why) was Stonehenge built on a grassy plain in England? Beats me. sophomore ii SOPHOMORE

Chrissie Miller creates clothes for her line, Sophomore, that look like lived-in, feminine gems you’d find strewn messily around the bedroom of the coolest girl you know. I love them- but what I love even more are the photographs in the designer’s lookbook. [ Continue Reading ]

Buddy Valastro calls himself, and may very well be, the Cake Boss this summer on TLC. Valastro’s family-run cake shop in Jersey, Carlo’s Bakery, turns out amazing edible works of art. Here’s the catch – so far, photos are hard to find on the internet, so you’ll have to tune in to see what I mean. For now, check out the sneak peek below.

If you see graffiti on public property, chances are that within a week, it will be covered up by that awkward shade of gray paint that they paint over graffiti with universally.

What makes graffiti different from any other works of art? If there is a plain wall, why not add some spice?

Notorious English graffiti artist, Banksy, likes to make a statement by showing that graffiti is art. [ Continue Reading ]

matthew1 399x400 Matthew HollingsThe drawings of Matthew Hollings are so detailed you’d swear that they were photographs that had been run through the “Sketch” tool in Photoshop. Mostly focusing in on pop and rock stars, I like how Holllings will combine a realistic sketch with a more abstract background to give the overall piece an artistic feel. Each piece has his stamp on it but remains entirely unique and somehow indescribably reflective of the style of the musician he portrays. [ Continue Reading ]

Yuken Teruya takes everyday objects, such as toilet paper rolls, McDonalds bags, and pizza boxes, and creates beautiful intricate pieces of art that reflect on culture and society.  In a small and delicate way he makes a strong statement about issues like the depletion of natural resources.  I love how a political statement can me made with a toilet paper roll, it’s awesome how simple it is.
