Beat it!…to the Wacky World of Kate Beaton
I’m so excited to be writing about fellow Canadian, Kate Beaton, because I want to tell the whole world about this talented doodler *insert enthusiastic punctuation here* and historian. I was first introduced to Kate’s blog by a friend and fellow literature buff and now I can’t get enough. She has also recently started up her own website, which includes pretty much the exact same thing as the blog, but with things written on a funny green background. I suggest browsing her blog because it dates back about a year, and has some amazing comics, whereas her website is fairly recent, and the archives only date back a couple weeks.
My internet was down for a few hours today, and I had a bunch of funny things to say about Kate, but now they’ve fled, leaving me with an empty feeling inside and sadness in my eyes :( *sad* But enough about me, this is ALL ABOUT KATE! If you have any interest in literature and/or history, or if you just enjoy life in general, then check the woman out. She not only writes about events in history and famous celebs of the past (the small and ferocious diva that was Napoleon Bonaparte, for example) but her blog also features quirky comics about her everyday life, and one of my favourites, called “younger self,” in which she draws her present-day self interacting with herself as a young’un.
A native of Cape Breton, Kate has spent time working mundane jobs across Canada, all while keeping us entertained. This woman is effed-up, I love her. She even has a few items for sale, though I wish there were more :( I even bought the t-shirt shown below!! Maybe that makes me a loser, but I really don’t think so (you don’t care, do you). I mean, reading IS f**kin’ crazy, dude…just ask the stick-person.
It IS crazy!
Anyhow, all this to say that I love Kate, and I want to be just like her, because we’re both Canadian, we’re historians by education *wink*, we’re practically the SAME AGE, we both like to draw, AND we both have dark hair. So essentially, we’re the same person, except that she’s amazing and well-known and has generally better and funnier ideas than I do. But that’s the only, extremely minor, difference. GO TO HER WEBSITE! You shall not regret, dear friends.
I heart you, Kate…let us be friends!
