Nasca Line astronaut2 435x400 The Nasca Stay in LineHave you ever made drawings in the dirt? A line maybe? A few squares or some animals perhaps? Well, if you have, I’m sorry to inform you that no matter how awesome you thought your creations were,  they were nothing compared to what the Nasca people of Peru did over a thousand years  ago. Osamu cover 295x400 The Art of Osamu: Japans Walt Disney

The image you see above is certainly a familiar one. It goes without saying that Astro Boy is an icon just as Mickey Mouse is to Disney, and as Mario is to Nintendo. The deceptively cute character is by far the most popular creation of one Osamu Tezuka, referred to by many as the “God of Manga.” Although I’m not really in to apotheosis of any kind, unless of course we’re talking about Michael Jackson :), the epithet certainly isn’t unwarranted considering Mr. Tezuka’s role in creating what has now become an explosive industry. exit through the gift shop banksy 532x400 Elusive Street Artist Banksy Revealed... Well not exactly

When it comes to street artists none are as famous as the ever elusive Banksy. With his satirical, playful and obviously bold expressions of graffiti genius, it is no wonder this UK legend/ hero has made it big time. A documentary, or is it a psuedo-documentary,  about him called “Exit through the Gift Shop” debuted at the Sundance Film Festival recently and while it doesn’t promise to reveal his identity or anything else about him for that matter, it does promise intrigue. For the second and final (for now) Crush of the Week  blog, I tried to do something for the ladies. I really did. After all it is your holiday that I am honoring by doing this. But… it didn’t turn out as expected. At first I thought to myself “hey, I hear a lot of girls say that Jared Leto dude is crushworthy and multi-talented”, but I just couldn’t bring myself to post that. Sorry :) Besides, the entire holiday is devoted to the ladies right? Dudes need something too, even if it is just a blog post or two…

Alas I did make a compromise though….

The featured artist this week is indie musician Ingrid Michaelson [ Continue Reading ]

In the spirit of the upcoming holiday – the one with all the hearts and candy and stuff, which if you leave your house at all, is impossible to avoid the ads for – I decided that for two weeks I will show ” a little love” to some of the artists out there that are not only talented but inspire crushes from here to San Fransisco. Welcome to “The Crush of the Week” post.

Have you ever wondered what happens to all those buses that nobody uses or are considered too old and unsafe for school use? Wonder no more. Apparently they all go to Panama! Unused and unwanted buses end up in Panama and are then converted into public transportation vehicles for urban areas. If that were the end of the story, one might say “That’s nice. They help out the less fortunate.”  This is much more than that. This is riding in style. Call it: Pimp My Ride: Panama City Edition. These neglected and worn down vehicles are ” fantastically refashioned” with designs and imagery painted on all available surfaces by  veteran artists and newbies alike. Horns, thumping music, [ Continue Reading ]
