Description
My name is Melissa. I grew up in Newfoundland, a little island off the east coast of Canada, and relocated to Montreal a few years back. I am part writer, part circus performer, part social worker, part musician, part dancer, part world traveler and, yes, part blogger. My favorite colour is gray, I'm vegetarian, and I drink coffee like only a true addict can. All of these parts come, mostly harmoniously, together, to form me. I hope you enjoy my posts.

rpm 09 2 It may be over for this year, but...

“This is the challenge… record an album in 28 days, just because you can.”

RPM stands for Record Production Month. It’s a great way for musicians to spice up the long winter months, or an exciting stand-alone challenge for any month out of the year.

0 Because Compromise Has a Bad Aftertaste

For a while now, Starbucks has been playing the silent martyr. They’ve been promoting Fair Trade, Conservation International, and Product (Red) for years without really taking advantage of the good PR that those kind of practices can produce. These days, possibly one of the world’s most well-known coffee providers are starting a new, simple ad campaign that will promote not only the value of their products, but also their own values.

mac summer 4 302x400 The Birds and the Bees

“The bees do it… now MAC does it!”

Despite a racy, sexy ad campaign, MAC’s summer collection is a bit blasé, if you ask me. If natural beauty isn’t passé this season, I don’t know what is.

0 What Do You Believe In?

Everybody wants to believe in something. Cai Guo-Qiang‘s exhibition at the Guggeheim Bilbao shows that he wants to believe in something extreme… Say, car explosions, or flying foxes. According to the Guggeheim’s website, I Want to Believe was designed as site-specific installation. “The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao’s exhibition presents art as a process that unfolds in time and space, dealing with ideas of transformation, expenditure of materials, and connectivity.” [ Continue Reading ]

It’s a little-known fact that every year, jugglers from all over world wait with baited breath for the convention season to start up after a long summer of working. There are hundreds of meetings all over the US, in Canada, and across the rest of the world where groups of up to thousands of jugglers come together to hang out, train, trade tricks, take workshops, perform, cheer, boo – all the fun things that come with being a juggler. This past weekend was one of the most successful weekends for

0 I like to Move It Move It

You see a lot of people on the floor these days who think they have moves… but you haven’t seen anything until you’ve seen Kenichi Ebina move it. Founder of Ebina Performing Arts Company, director, choreographer and sick performer – Ebina’s got a lot of street cred. [ Continue Reading ]

m qui 1 333x400 Mister.. who?

As in any big city, studio space is hard to come by in Paris. So, is it any wonder that artists take to the street? Consider the benefits – loads of natural light, hands-on work, loads of feedback from the public… [ Continue Reading ]

stone 1 Les Stone

Years ago, I was flipping through an art magazine while I was waiting for the dye to set in my hair, and I came across some stunning photos of child soldiers in Liberia. At the time, I volunteered with a Liberian family with the Association for New Canadians, and I had been searching for information about the conflict with [ Continue Reading ]
