Description
My name is Melissa. I grew up in Newfoundland, a little island off the east coast of Canada, and relocated to Montreal a few years back. I am part writer, part circus performer, part social worker, part musician, part dancer, part world traveler and, yes, part blogger. My favorite colour is gray, I'm vegetarian, and I drink coffee like only a true addict can. All of these parts come, mostly harmoniously, together, to form me. I hope you enjoy my posts.

Nicole Tran Va Bang is a multi-media artist with a very accesible, but maturely provocative style whose artwork begs for answers to questions that all of us ask. The umbrella topic? Beauty. It has been a fascination for artists since the dawn of time, but not all artists have live in a time when beauty has become such a fascination of all of society. We are pummelled with it from billboards, movie screens and, not least of all, mirrors. Tran Va Bang’s art dares to ask what it’s all about, how we get it, and, most of all, what it means. There is something to be said for the art of good abstraction. After all, who didn’t feel a good twinge of intrigue when they saw their first Dali back in seventh grade art class, right? And there’s a similar something to be said about the abstract illustrations of Dhear One. [ Continue Reading ]

What’s a good photo without a good finishing artist? Well, with Jaroslav Stehlík around, we don’t have to find out. f james lileks A Blast from the Past

When I first ended up at writer James Lileks’ webpage, I couldn’t for the life of me figure out what it was for. After some investigation, I noticed the  small, subtle links to purchase his retro-chic design and cookbooks. But, this investigation took me through the bountiful collections that are all things Lileks, and as they say, it’s the journey… [ Continue Reading ]

Buddy Valastro calls himself, and may very well be, the Cake Boss this summer on TLC. Valastro’s family-run cake shop in Jersey, Carlo’s Bakery, turns out amazing edible works of art. Here’s the catch – so far, photos are hard to find on the internet, so you’ll have to tune in to see what I mean. For now, check out the sneak peek below.
