An Unexpected Surprise
Sometimes you get hit with things you don’t expect. And usually that’s not a good thing. But every once in a while it is. I had such an experience last weekend and, since it involves the arts, I wanted to share it with you.
The Blues Festival took place last weekend in Chicago. My daughter sang with the first act to perform, and needless to say I’m very proud of her. So for a couple of hours after she performed, I enjoyed the weather and appreciated the blues like I never have before. I realized that there is no rock and roll without the influence of the blues.
So then my daughter had to go out to the airport and catch a flight to see her grandmother. I drove her to the airport, parked the car, and went inside. And what did I find playing in the baggage claim area? Another blues band! Specifically, the Linsey Alexander band. And I will tell you that Linsey can play. It was like a bonus blues session that just came from out of nowhere. And in case you’re wondering, live blues makes any setting more enjoyable.
This year’s Blues Festival will be over by the time you read this. But remember that not only are the blues an important, and sometimes overlooked, art form, but the arts in general can add an extra dimension to our lives, especially when we aren’t expecting it.
