Allen Ruppersberg

One of the greatest conceptual artists in the U.S., Allen Ruppersberg, has a wall of drawings all to himself at the MoMA right now, the titles all beginning with “Honey, I rearranged the collection because…”

By an uncharacteristic stroke of luck, I got to see the series in person last weekend, and I’m telling you, the honesty and humor in his work just about made me cry (ironic!) The drawings are all the same underneath- a pencil drawing of the interior of a room, but he layered different things on each (stickers, color, text) and hand-wrote a different message to his ”Honey” explaining his reasons for rearranging their art collection. All at once, it deals with connections, decisions, memories, and how a slight change can make someone feel completely different.

If you’re in NYC, go see it!! It’s the most poignant thing for miles.
