Take a closer look. Look familiar? Probably not something you expected to see on a playground, right? Well, this is the first adult playgym, in St. John’s, Newfoundland. This is the newest concept in promoting active living on the little island.
Its official title is the City of St. John’s Outdoor Active Living Equipment. The project is located on a walking trail beside a local lake. The area consists of twelve pieces of exercise equipment, styled to look like local playground equipment. Each piece is designed to use the users own body weight to create resistance.
Unlike most local gyms, this one is free – to use and to observe. It is the city’s first adult playground endeavor, although a second in another location is already in planning stages. Some of the activities include leg press, rowing machine, air walker and lateral pull down.
If these adult playgrounds existed in parks near you, would you use them?
