ACT AS ONE!
It’s time to start looking for your 2010 summertime jams. I’d suggest starting with these guys. ACT AS ONE, based out of Saginaw, Mich., caters to a young adult audience, mixing elements of pop, punk, hardcore and thrash in their music. They’ve recently released their full-length “No Looking Back” on Capeside Records, and the accredited AMP Magazine named them as one of their “8 More Bands You Should Be Blastin’” in their 100th issue (page 22). Review Magazine also named them Best Alternative Band and Best CD Release of the Year. “True Friends And Dead Ends” and “Remember Tomorrow” are my favs.
Lyrics, written by vocalist Taylor Nagel and guitarist Shawn Brown, focus on friendship, love, and loss: “We prefer to write songs in these themes not only because they draw from our personal lives, but they are similar themes of the big pop punk band songs that we grew up listening to,” Shawn told Review. “We strive to be unique in our musical composition while staying very down to earth in our lyrics. We want people to be able to relate to the stories we tell. We haven’t really determined if there is a universal message in our songs, but one that pops up often is that no matter how bad things get, they’ll always get better.”
ACT AS ONE’s future includes recording another full-length by the end of summer and touring the country. If you want to let the dudes crash on your couch during tour, let them know! A few helpful facts to know: Ben Hoffman (the drummer) will stay anywhere if you provide Tetris Attack, sources tell me Jared McNally will likely hit on your girl, and Taylor really, really likes Cheetos.
